Girard "Butch" Bernard Borgerding, age 53 of Minneapolis. Passed away March 16th, 2005. Butch was born in 1951 in Melrose, MN to Agnes (Holdvogt) and Cyril Borgerding. He was raised in Freeport, MN or as he liked to refer to it "Lake Wobegon". He attended St. Cloud State and the University of Minnesota to receive his Masters in Electrical Engineering.
In 1986, he married Jean Flaten, in Pinecreek, MN. He was a long time employee of Medtronic, Inc where he was a Technical Fellow and Distinguished Engineer. He was president of Edison Youth Hockey Association from 2002 to present.
Butch is survived by his wife, Jean, and daughters, Tess and Sophie. Also survived by sisters, RoseAnn (Allen) Zimmer and MaryLou (Tom) Lundberg, sisters-in-law, Judy (Mark) Borgerding, Sheila (Bob) Winstead and Tallie (Scott) Habstritt and brother-in-law, Jim (Dawn) Ohnstad and father-in-law, Gilmore (Thelma) Flaten. He will also be remembered as a very special uncle by nieces, Sara (Mike Goettel) Zimmer, Leah (Mike) Bowman, Anna Zimmer, Britta Lundberg, Erin (Kelly) Capps and Amber (Chris) Hass and nephews, Matt Zimmer, Mitch (Angie) Ohnstad, Chris Ohnstad, Erik and Anders Lundberg and Ben and Vince Winstead and also great-nephew, Hans Zimmer Goettel and great-niece, Ava Elyse Hass.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father, brother, Mark and sister, Lenore. Butch was gifted with tremendous energy and drive and couldn't resist a project whether at work, for a friend or one of his own. He tackled them with great gusto and followed them to completion. As far as we know the only project left unfinished was his retirement home, but we know that God had a better retirement plan for Butch than any we could have come up with. Memorial service at KING OF GRACE LUTHERAN CHURCH (6000 Duluth St., Golden Valley) Monday at 11 AM. Visitation Sunday from 6-7 PM at the church followed by a prayer service at 7 PM.
