Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Pierz, for Jerome J. Flicker, 80, formerly of Rochester, who died Saturday at his home. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 7:30 p.m. tonight and from 8 to 10 a.m. Thursday at Shelley-Virnig Funeral Chapel, Pierz. Parish prayers will be at 7 tonight at the funeral chapel.
Jerome Flicker was born in Pierz to Joseph and Eleanor (Riesgraf) Flicker. He enlisted in the U.S. Army on April 5, 1942, and was stationed in Yakutat Bay, Alaska. He married Lydia Welle on May 20, 1944, at St. John's Nepomuk Catholic Church, Lastrup. The couple moved to various Army posts during World War II, living in Hattiesburg, Miss., Little Rock, Ark., Gainesville, Texas and San Luis Obispo, Calif. He was honorably discharged Nov. 7, 1945, from Camp Roberts in San Luis Obispo. When the war ended, the couple moved back to Pierz, where they resided from 1945 to 1950. The couple then moved to St. Cloud and then to Rochester in 1953. They moved to Little Falls in 1996. The couple wintered in Boynton Beach, Fla., from 1983 to 1991. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Little Falls.
Survivors include his children, Kevin of Morris, Sheryl Clum of Minneapolis, and Paula Fisher of Phoenix; brothers and sisters, Ardell of Plainview, Marilyn Schreiner, Leon and Gerald of Pierz, Floyd of Rochester, and Myrna O'Callaghan of Sonoma, Calif.; and four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife on Aug. 25, 2000; and son, David. Memorials are preferred to St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Pierz, or St. Mary's Catholic Church, Little Falls.
