Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday, May 9, 2005 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Freeport for Lillian E. Beuning, 83, of Melrose, who died after a short battle with cancer at Pine Haven in Melrose. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery. Friends may call Sunday from 3:30 to 8:30 p.m. and Monday from 8 to 10 a.m. at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home, Melrose. Parish prayers will be at 8 p.m. at the funeral home on Sunday.
Lillian Beuning was born Nov. 24, 1921 in Freeport, Minnesota to Nicholas and Lucy (Linn) Fabeck. She married Jerome B. Beuning on April 26, 1943 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Freeport. They farmed on the family farm near St. Rosa until retiring in 1988. They moved to Freeport where they resided until moving to Pine Villa Care Center in Melrose. Lillian enjoyed family and friends. She also liked to gamble and socialize with people. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Freeport and the Christian Mothers.
Survivors include her husband of 62 years, Jerry Beuning of Melrose; children, Mary Ann Klasen (David) of Albany, Richard "Larry" Beuning (Elaine) of Freeport, Marlene Schmidt (Donald) of Hoffman, and Darrel Beuning (Barb) of Freeport; 15 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; sisters, Marie Vorgert (Ervin) of Perham, Dorothy Kolb (Claude) of Shakopee, and Lu Ann Dickhaus of Melrose.
Lillian was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Nicholas Fabeck, Jr.; and brother-in-law, Alcuin Dickhaus. Memorials are preferred to the Alzheimer's Association - 4550 West 77th Street, Suite 200, Minneapolis, MN 55435.
