Funeral services will be 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Melrose for Karen Moening who died Sunday at the St. Cloud Hospital. Interment will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday from 3 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday from 8 to 11 a.m. at Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Melrose. Christian Mothers will pray at 7 p.m. followed by parish prayers at 8 p.m. on Tuesday evening.
Karen Moening was born in Melrose to Frank and Loretta (Vogel) Kortan. She graduated from Sauk Centre High School in 1963. She married Eugene Moening on October 26, 1968 at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Sauk Centre. Karen was employed at the Melrose High School for 29 years. She worked with children with special needs and in the classrooms. She enjoyed flowers, gardening, cooking and canning. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Melrose and the Christian Mothers.
Survivors include her children, Melanie Moening of Sauk Centre and Brian Moening of Melrose; one granddaughter, Courtney Moening; mother, Loretta Kortan of Sauk Centre; sisters and brother, Bernice Uhlenkamp (Ernie) of Elrosa, Darlene Dols (John) of Sauk Centre, Jeanette Loehr (Joe) of Melrose, Michael Kortan (Theresa) of Sauk Centre, and Julie Grams of Chaska.
Karen was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Moening on August 8, 2003; and father, Frank Kortan.
