Virgil J. Hollenkamp, 76, of St. Cloud and formerly of St. Rosa, died Feb 12, 2003, at his home. Funeral services were held Saturday, Feb.15, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in St. Cloud. Reverend Timothy Wenzel officiated with interment in Assumption Cemetery, St. Cloud.
Virgil was born on Aug. 13, 1926 in St. Rosa, to Joseph and Bernadine (Scherping) Hollenkamp. He married Eileen G. Mugg on Oct. 21, 1948, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in St. Joseph. Virgil was employed as a carman by the Great Northern Railroad and later by the Burlington Northern Railroad for 38 years, retiring in 1986. He loved to garden, hunt and fish. Virgil was a member of St. Anthony's Parish, the National Association of Retired Veteran Railway Employees (NARVRE), and the St. Cloud Eagles Aerie #622.
Survivors include his children, Loren and his wife Nancy of Brook Park, June Gustafson of Waite Park, Pam Roske and her husband Bob of Melrose, William and his wife Sandra of Foreston, Wayne and his wife Jodi of Mora, Yvonne Rueter of St. Cloud, Kim Regnier and her husband Chuck of Clearwater, LaNett Grauf-Hollenkamp and her partner Cyndi of Temecula, Calif., Scott and his wife Jill of Sartell; his special friend, Collette Betz of St. Cloud; 26 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; three brothers, Leander "Dick" of Freeport, Sylvester and Ronald both of St. Rosa; one sister, Marion Hallermann of St. Cloud.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Eileen on June 5, 1984; one brother, Leborius. Pallbearers were his grandsons, Jason Rueter, Bradley Rueter, Jeremy Hollenkamp, Ben Hollenkamp, Jamie Gustafson, Craig Hollenkamp, Trent Roske, Daniel Hollenkamp, Jerrod Hollenkamp, and Jacob Regnier. Arrangements were by the Daniel Funeral Home, St. Cloud.
