Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Gertrude Catholic Church, Forest City, for Edmund J. Meyer, 84, who died Sunday at Watkins Hilltop Care Center. Interment will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and 8 to 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Ertl Funeral Home in Watkins. Senior Citizens will pray the rosary at 4 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home followed by parish prayers at 7 p.m., a Legion Post #453 service at 8 p.m., and Wat-Kim-Valley VFW service at 6:30 p.m.
Edmund J. Meyer was born in Richmond to Henry and Magdalena (Kraemer) Meyer. He married Fern Arnes on April 23, 1946, at St. Philip Catholic Church in Litchfield. They farmed in Forest Prairie Township until Edmund's retirement in 1992. Fern passed away in 1989. Edmund served his country in the US Army during World War II. He was a longtime member of St. Gertrude Catholic Church in Forest City and was a member of the Catholic Aid Association. He was also a member of the Watkins Senior Citizens, the Wat-Kim-Valley VFW, the Last Man Club, was a member of Legion Post #453 for over 50 years, and was a former board member of the Forest City Creamery.
Survivors include his children and their spouses, Diane and Les Young of Litchfield, Renee and Gerald Brutger of Kimball, Arlis and Gary Klein of Watkins, Marlene and Dennis Landwehr of Watkins, Adrian and Suzanne Meyer of Watkins, Edmund Jr. and Christy Meyer of Grove City; 11 grandchildren; three step grandchildren; one great grandchild; one step great grandchild; brother and sisters and their spouses, Colleta and Roman Meyer of Eden Valley, Alice Backes of St. Cloud, Bernice Hoefer of Crystal, Cathlene Scarlon of Loretto, Donald and Barb Meyer of St. Cloud; brother and sisters in law, Einer Olson of St. Cloud, Kathlene Meyer of Cold Spring, and Stana Meyer of St. Cloud; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Fern; four brothers; and two sisters.
