Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 27, 2007 at Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church in Sauk Centre for Dillo J. Leukam, 84, who died unexpectedly at his home in Sauk Centre. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery. Friends may call Monday from 4 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday from 8 to 10 a.m. at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Sauk Centre. Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Aid will pray at 6 p.m. followed by parish prayers at 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Dillo Leukam was born October 28, 1922 in Grove Township, Stearns County, Minn. to Joseph and Elizabeth (Berling) Leukam. He was united in marriage to Monica C. Meyer on May 2, 1949 at St. Michaels Catholic Church in Spring Hill. They farmed for 30 years near Elrosa later moving to Sauk Centre in 1979. Dillo was a seed corn rep. for the past 35 years. He and Monica enjoyed gardening, building bird houses, ice fishing, bowling and playing cards. Monica died on Feb. 8, 1999. On March 4, 2000 Dillo was united in marriage to Irene R. (Uphus) Wuertz at Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church in Spicer. They lived in Sauk Centre where they loved to go out to eat and play cards, especially Solo. He was a member of Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church, Catholic Aid, former member of Knights of Columbus, and Sinclair Lewis Aerie #3847 Fraternal Order of Eagles.
Survivors include his wife, Irene Leukam of Sauk Centre; children, Kenny Leukam (Kathy) of Sauk Centre, Duane Leukam (Bonnie) of Sauk Centre, Don Leukam (Sue) of Belgrade, Jane Schurman (Jerry) of Sauk Centre, Randy Leukam (Terri) and John Leukam (Monique), both of Andover; step-children, Mary Lou Williams (Don) of Maple Grove, Ken Wuertz (Jane) of Plymouth, Tom Wuertz (Teddi) of Dayton, and Anna Erickson (Stewart) of New London; sisters, Ceil Rieland of Freeport, and Verena Uphus of Belgrade; 18 grandchildren, one great-grandchild; seven step-grandchildren, and seven step-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Elizabeth Leukam; wife, Monica Leukam; step-son, Daniel Wuertz in 1969; and brothers, Leo, Albert and Aloys Leukam. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to St. Michaels Hospice 425 Elm St. N - Sauk Centre, MN 56378 and Central Minnesota Heart Center at St. Cloud Hospital 1406 6th Ave. N St. Cloud, MN 56301.
