Apr 29, 2000 Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Louis Catholic Church for John L. Scheierl, 80, who died Saturday at Koronis Manor. Interment will be in the church cemetery with military rites provided by Paynesville American Legion Post 271. Friends may call from 4 to 8 tonight at Johnson Funeral Home, Paynesville, and one hour before services Tuesday at the church in Paynesville. Christian Mothers will pray at 4:30 tonight at the funeral home in Paynesville followed by parish prayers at 7:30.
John Scheierl was born in Union Grove Township to Blasius and Anne (Meyer) Scheierl. He grew up on the family farm. During World War II, he was in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1945. He was stationed in India and North Africa and earned the Bronze Star. He married Alice Hennen on Feb. 7, 1950, at St. Louis Catholic Church in Paynesville. The couple farmed for 25 years near Paynesville. He also worked at A and C Farm Service and Paynesville Implement for several years. He was a member of St. Louis Catholic Church.
Survivors include his wife; sons and daughters, Barb Kloster and Tom of Paynesville, Doug of Sauk Centre, JoAnn Kleist of Mankato, Patty Schultz of Watkins, Betty Plaetz of Wood Lake, and Lori Baago of Farmington; 14 grandchildren; and sisters, Marie Lahr of Paynesville, Catherine Zirbes of Rockville, and Caroline Lahr of Manannah.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, George, Sylvestor, Joseph, Henry, Anton, William and (infant) William.
