Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, Sauk Centre, for L. Aljena Meyer, 78, formerly of Padua, who died Sunday at St. Mary's Hospital, Rochester. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Glenwood. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Hoplin Funeral Home, Glenwood, and one hour before services Thursday at the church in Sauk Centre. There will be a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home in Glenwood.
L. Aljena Meyer was born in Grove Lake Township to Frank and Elsie (Fowlds) Woodhall. She was raised by her maternal grandmother after her parents died at a young age. She married Lester Meyer in 1940 at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church. The couple lived in Grove Lake and farmed. They then moved to Padua and owned and operated Padua Store. They moved to Glenwood in 1958 and lived there for 38 years. She worked for the Glenwood school district from 1971 to 1989. The couple moved back to Grove Lake in 1996. She volunteered at the Glenwood Retirement Village and Central Square and was actively involved in the church and Christian Mothers.
Survivors include her husband; daughters and sons, Jean Bailey, JoAnne Welch and Larry of Glenwood, Linda Rubi of Minnetonka, Lori Conde of Eau Claire, Wis., and Dean of Fargo, N.D.; sisters, Mildred Thompson of Glenwood, and Lovetta Moran of Whittier, Calif.
She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Karen; son, Charles; grandson, Michael Welch; and brother, James.
