Lester Meyer, age 92 of Glenwood, died Sunday November 1, 2009 at the Glacial Ridge Hospital in Glenwood. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 A.M. Wednesday, November 4, 2009 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Glenwood with interment in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday. Arrangements are with the Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Glenwood.
Lester Peter Meyer, son of Peter and Mary (Bauer) Meyer was born on May 17, 1917 at Lake Henry, MN. On January 23, 1940, he was united in marriage to L. Aljena Woodhall at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church. Over the years Lester farmed, worked in sales and was an entrepreneur. Lester was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He loved to visit, tell stories and go for rides in the car. His family is grateful to him for allowing his story telling to live on through the various tapes of his life story that he made for his children.
Lester is survived by three daughters, Joanne (Ed) Welch of Glenwood, MN, Jean (Ben) Bailey of Glenwood, MN, Linda (Luis) Rubi of Minnetonka, MN; two sons, Larry Meyer of Glenwood, MN and Dean (Bonnie) Meyer of Fargo, ND; 25 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren (with 2 more expected); nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, L. Aljena Meyer in 2000; daughter, Lori Conde in 2008; son, Charles in 1965; an infant daughter, Karen in 1948; four brothers, Archie, Ralph, Bob and Peter; and four sisters, Priscilla, Lydia, Irene and Rita.
