Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, January 5, 2009 at St. Patricks Catholic Church, Minden Township for Benedict Ben Middendorf, 89, of St. Cloud, who died Tuesday at his home. Rev. Bernard Kahlhammer will officiate and burial will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Sunday at Williams Dingmann Family Funeral Home, Sauk Rapids and one hour prior to the services Monday at the church.Parish prayers and Foley Knights of Columbus Bishop Marty Council will pray at 5:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Benedict Ben Middendorf was born April 7, 1919 in Richmond to Joseph & Catherine (Mandernach) Middendorf. He married Alice Mehr on Feb. 17, 1947 at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Richmond. They have lived in Haven Township for 50 years. Ben was a Parts Foreman for Franklin Manufacturing in St. Cloud. He was a member of St. Patricks Catholic Church, Catholic Aid Association, and Foley Knights of Columbus Bishop Marty Council. Ben enjoyed John Deere tractors and trains. He was a member of Rapids Ringer Horseshoe Club and was a Trophy Thrower. He looked forward to family camping weekends.
Survivors include his wife, Alice of St. Cloud; daughters and sons, Cindy (Brenda) Merten of Cottage Grove, Judy (George) Omann of Albertville, Carol (Mike) Binczik of Lincoln, NE, Betty (Tom) McKay of Little Falls, Donna Meyer of St. Cloud, Gary of Albertville, Irene (Ivan) Kaeter of Sauk Rapids, Leon (Michelle) of Big Lake, Leslie (Beth) of Lincoln, NE, Sue (Floyd) Neumann of St. Cloud, John (Brenda) of Monticello, and Mark of St. Cloud; brother and sister, Magdeline Mehr of Sauk Rapids and Raymond Middendorf of St. Cloud; 24 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
Ben was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Alex, Richard, Othmar, Norbert, and James; infant brother, Joseph; and sisters, Erma Willing, Mary Ann Mackedanz and Hildegard Niewind.
