Sister Loretta (DePorres) Rothstein, 81, died at St. Scholastica Convent on October 23rd. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, October 26th, at St. Benedict¹s Monastery chapel. There will be visitation at St. Scholastica Convent at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday. There will also be visitation at St. Benedict¹s Monastery on Thursday beginning with a Vigil Wake Service at 7:00 p.m. There will be visitation on Friday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral.
Sister Loretta was born to Peter and Christina (Utsch) Rothstein on June 1, 1920 in Richmond, MN. She entered St. Benedict¹s Monastery in 1938, made her first profession on July 11, 1939 and her final profession of vows on July 11, 1942. For over forty years she did cooking, baking and homemaking in convents in Cold Spring, St. Paul, Red Lake, Hutchinson, Sauk Rapids and St. Benedict¹s Monastery as well as in Nassau, Bahamas. She worked in various capacities later at St. Benedict¹s Monastery before retiring to St. Scholastica Convent in 1999.
Sister Loretta is survived by her Benedictine community and three sisters, Mrs. Irene Bauer of Cottage Grove, Mrs. Lucille Petermeier of Richmond, and Mrs. Mildred Bostrom of St. Paul. She was preceded in death by four brothers and three sisters.
