Mass of Christian Burial, celebrating the life of Sylvester Thomas Michalski, age 83 of St. Cloud, will be 11:00 AM Wednesday, September 19, 2007 at St. Mary's Help Of Christians Catholic Church in St. Augusta. Father Robert Rolfes will officiate and burial will take place in the parish cemetery with full military honors. Friends may call from 4-9 PM Tuesday evening, September 18, 2007 and again after 10:00 AM Wednesday at Miller-Carlin Funeral Home in St. Cloud. Waite Park American Legion will pray at 6:00 PM followed by parish prayers at 6:30 PM Tuesday at the funeral home.
Sylvester was born December 22, 1923 in Foley, to Albert and Francis (Polonis) Michalski. Sylvester was a WW-II Navy veteran who served on the USS Enterprise. Upon his discharge, he returned to Minnesota. He married Rose Donabauer on June 9, 1948 in St. Joseph. He worked as a mechanic at the St. Cloud Airport and later as a US postal carrier in St. Cloud until his retirement in 1979. Sylvester also raised chickens on his hobby farm for Jack Frost for many years. He is a member of St. Mary's Help Of Christians Catholic Church, Waite Park American Legion Post # 428, and Garrison VFW Post #1816. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and playing cards.
He is survived by his wife, Rose, St. Cloud; children, Judy (Claude "Bud") Deering of Durango, Colorado; Mike (Sue) Michalski of Clearwater, Jane (Cleve) Johnston of Rice, Sue (Jon) Burgess of Prior Lake, JoAnn Repke (George Schill) of Clearwater, Sharon Michalski-Lukach of Sartell, Sandy (Mike) Zwilling of Rockville, and Scott (Lori) Michalski of St. Cloud; twelve grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; and sister, Mary McCarthy of Duluth.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Albert, Stanley and John Michalski; three sisters, Agnes Bergstrom, Angeline Garraputa, and Cecelia Donabauer.
