St. Joseph--Thomas Pete Barthle, 57, local businessman, native and lifetime resident of St. Joseph community, passed away Monday, Oct. 1, after a long illness. He was a son of the late Bernard and Irene Gude Barthle, was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, owner/operator of the old St. Joe store, which he founded in 1946, and served with the Army in Guam, Philippines, and Guadalcanal during WW II.
Survivors are one son, Theodore Barthe; 4 daughters, Irene, Clara, and Joanne Barthle, all of St. Joseph, and Mrs. Mary Kay Etheridge, Dade City; 2 brothers, Hubert and Richard Barthle of St. Joseph; 1 sister, Mrs. Angela Irwin, Bushnell, Fla.
Friends may call after 4 p.m. Wednesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, St. Joseph, where a Rosary service will be held 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, and a Mass will be said at 10 a.m. Thursday with Rev. Paul Romfh O.S.B. officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery with Andrew and Jerome Barthle, Dr. H.G. Brownlee, John Duggan, Bill Fagan and Frank Neuhoffer serving as pallbearers.
