Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:30 a.m. Thursday, May 30 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Melrose for Lawrence Frieler who died Friday at the St. Cloud Hospital. Rev. Vince Lieser will officiate with interment following in St. Mary's Cemetery. Friends may call from 3:30 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and 8 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Melrose. Veteran's prayer service will be at 7 p.m. followed by parish prayers at 8 p.m. and St. Bernard's Society at 8:30 p.m. Wednesday evening at the funeral home in Melrose.
Lawrence Frieler was born on July 7, 1921 in Grenora, North Dakota to George and Mary (Wenker) Frieler. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Army. He was united in marriage to Viola Hinnenkamp on Sept. 21, 1954 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Melrose. The couple resided in Atwater, Avon, Belgrade and Watkins before moving to Melrose in 1976. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, St. Bernard's Society and a life member of Schanhaar-Otte VFW Post 7050.
Survivors include his wife, Viola of Melrose; four sons, Richard (Susan) Frieler of Chisago City, Steven (Therese) Frieler of St. Francis, Daniel (Brenda) Frieler of St. Cloud, Brian Frieler of Onamia; six grandchildren; brothers and sister, Norbert (Hildegard) Frieler and Duane (Rita) Frieler of Greenwald, Edward (Loretta) Frieler and Alvin (Rita) Frieler of Melrose, Francis (Eileen) Frieler of Annandale, Vernon (Agatha) Frieler of Grey Eagle and Doris (Ervin) Goebel of St. Joseph.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Lloyd Frieler; and infant sister, Regina.
