Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, October 22, 2001, at St. James Catholic Church, Jacobs Prairie, for Roman L. Schmitt, 91, who died on Thursday at Koronis Manor in Paynesville. The Rev. Florian Muggli, OSB, will officiate. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Friends and relatives may call after 4 p.m. on Sunday, October 21 and after 9 a.m. Monday until time of service at the Wenner Funeral Home, Cold Spring. St. James Men¹s Society will pray the rosary at 6:30 p.m. Sunday followed by parish prayers at 8 p.m.
Roman L. Schmitt was born in Jacobs Prairie on Feb. 17, 1910, to Joseph and Catherine (Fuchs) Schmitt. He married Marie Nies on October 7, 1941, at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Cold Spring, MN.
Survivors include his wife; children; Earl, Arnie, and Dottie (Gene) Eisenschenk, Cold Spring; Martha, Milly (Roger) VanVickle, and Diane, St. Cloud; Eileen (Scott) Karakas, Hillsborough, North Carolina; brother John, Avon; and 2 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Alphonse and Nick, and sisters Alma and Sr. Leonarda, OSF.
