Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 1 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Melrose for Ione L. Walz, 81, who died Thursday at the Pine Villa Care Center in Melrose. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. Friday and from 8 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Melrose. Christian Mothers will pray at 6:45 p.m. followed by parish prayers at 7 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home.
Ione was born in Melrose to Bernard and Rose (Inderrieden) Wessel. She married Norbert J. Walz on December 26, 1942 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Melrose.
She is survived by her children, Ron (Karen) Walz of Elk River; Mike (Shirley) Walz of Hastings; 5 grandchildren; and 4 great-grandchildren; sisters, Clara Conrad of Milwaukee, WI; Alvina (Ves) Woeste of Melrose and Eileen Dold of Sauk Centre.
Ione was preceded in death by her husband, Norb Walz on Jan. 3, 1983; brothers and sisters, Joseph, Aloys, John, Rose, Mary, Frances, Ann, Catherine, Irene and Josephine.
