An article from a local paper in Scotland about Alex Patrick. It reads as
follows:
"GARDENERS FUNERAL: The grave on Tuesday closed over a well known
native of Kilsyth in there person of Mr. Alexander Patrick, who passed aw ay
at Townhead Street on Saturday. For about seven years, Mr. Patrick had
not been able to follow his usual calling of miner, but he had been going
about until the past two months and up til the end had been sitting about .
He had entered the pits when a boy of 10 years but even before that ,he h ad
been doing something at (?) weaving. Deceased was real old Kilsythian of
a kindly and obliging nature, and very industrious. His interest in Free
Gardenry was very deep. He had been connected with the committee of the
Thistle Lodge for twenty years and had been treasure for sixteen. One o f the
originators of the St. Joseph lodge, he had also been acted as treasure r for
that institution in its early days till the Lodge was able to give some r emuneration f
or the office. No man could have taken a more fatherly
interest in any society: he watched its funds as if they had been his own .
For 38 years, he was treasurer of the Barrwood Society. He was also a
Mason, though Gardenry was nearer his affections. Brother Gardeners
turned out to the funeral along with the Town Band on Tuesday, and all
offered up prayer. Bro. T. Smith, chaplain, conducted the service accordi ng
to the ritual of that Lodge. Mr. Patrick, who was 67 years of age, is sur vived
by Mrs. Patrick and ? ? of family."
