Janet Jessie "Jessie" Shaw
(15 Apr 1845 - 1926)
Note-per Marlene Williamson:
483/ 10/8 p3 with parents and siblings Jenat Shaw Dau 5 scholar bn Kilsyt h with husband abd four children Jessie STEVENSON M 38 F bn Kilsyth Wif e (Research):I suspect that the Janet baptised in 1845 was kn own in th e family, and became known to all, as Jessie, possibly to distinguich he r from her mother Janet. 1895: At John's death he is listed as a widowe r but no trace of his wife's death prior to this has been found. I canno t locate her in the 1891 census - her two young daughters are living wit h John's sister Marion Jarvie. John is probably at sea. 1901: Her son Jam es is married and says on his certificate that his mother is Jessie WADDE LL previously STEVENSON nee Shaw. This information is also given by James ' widow at his death in 1933. Searched 1901 census for Jessie Waddell, de ath for Jessie WADDELL/SHAW or STEVENSON until 1929 (last available yea r online) or marriage of a SHAW or STEVENSON to a WADDELL after 1881, whe n the youngest Stevenson was born - not found. They may have married in E ngland which is more difficult to find online. My theory is that Jessie l eft her husband John and after he died in 1895, she married ? WADDELL. Pe rhaps the family refused to have anything to do with her, except for he r son James, which may be why he was cast out as well. The next step is t o try and find a child (he apparently had 16!) or grandchild of James an d Annie and see what information can be gathered from that source. THe on e grandchild contacted so far in Glasgow did not even know her grandparen ts names. 1891 Census Jessie Shaw Age: «tab»43 Estimated birth year: «tab »abt 1848 Relationship: «tab»Inmate Gender: «tab»Female Where born: «tab» Kilsyth, Stirlingshire Registration Number: «tab»644/9 Registration distr ict: «tab»Kelvin Civil parish: «tab»Glasgow Barony County: «tab»Lanarkshi re Address: «tab»114 Hill St Occupation: «tab»Domestic Servant Housemai d ED: «tab»3 Page: «tab»9 (click to see others on page) Household schedul e number: «tab»25 Line: «tab»7
