Peter Murray
(12 Mar 1849 - )
Peter served his time as Ship's Carpenter and went to sea. He "lost i s reason" (not very badly) but was put into the Asylum. In the first wee k he was there, he refused to move from the seat he was on at the table . The two keepers laid hold of him and dashed him down on the floor and k icked him till they killed him. There was no redress as none saw the affa ir but the other patients and their word was not accepted, but the keeper s were discharged. His Uncle Robert wrote that he "saw the body and the w ounds and bruises were enough to have killed anyone". The matter was hush ed up and the rascals got free. His mother Annie was already dead when th is happened. Peter's widow married again.
