Individual Details

Margaret J. Ruble

(22 Sep 1857 - 1 Sep 1948)

The deep bowl that is framed in a window box and currently displayed in the author's home was passed down from Maggie. She initially gave the bowl to to her step-daughter, Martha. Martha gave it to her daughter-in-law, Amma Leigh Culp, in 1943 prior to her death in 1945. Leigh cherished the bowl and had it permanently mounted in the shadow box. This family heirloom passed down to the author's wife, Phyllis McFadden Culp, after his mother's death in June of 2001. The origin of the bowl is not known. It may have been in Thomas's family before their marriage, or she might have brought it to the marriage. By all accounts, Maggie was a loving step-mother to the six children. Maggie is buried beside Thomas in Anna Cemetery (tombstone photograph available).
