Individual Details

Clifton Winfred Culp

(17 Dec 1883 - 16 Nov 1955)

Dr. Culp spent forty-seven years in the gospel ministry. Forty-two of those years were spent as a pastor serving ten churches from one to fourteen years in duration. His largest and longest pastorate was the Queensborough Baptist Church in Shreveport, Louisiana. Other callings led him to East Saint Louis, Hannibal, Missouri, and Colorado Springs. He also served as Secretary of the Louisiana Baptist Foundation, head quartered in Shreveport, and Superintendent of the Southern Baptist Missions in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

While in Colorado, he and Bena were in a head-on collision with a drunken driver. Bena was killed in the accident, but Clifton survived with multiple injuries. He recovered from these injuries, but died peacefully in his sleep at the home of a fellow pastor, Rev. Marion B. Dunham, shortly thereafter.

BURIAL: Clifton was buried in Forest Park Cemetery in Shreveport by Rose-Neath Funeral Home Chapel in a family plot with Martha and Bena (tombstone photograph available). Five fellow ministers officiated. Hymn selections were Some Day He'll Make It Plain to Me and Precious Lord Take My Hand.
