Adam had at least one child from his first marriage with Elizabeth May. He emigrated to Philadelphia in 1721 and it is not known what happened to Elizabeth or if he brought any children with him. He married Mary Steele, widow of James Alexander, that same year. It was Adam and Mary that moved their family to west Tennessee where Adam was elected to Congress twice. His will was dated 4 May 1747 in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, and he is believed to have died there in 1750..
