Benoni Culp

(16 Aug 1799 - 8 Apr 1841)

Benoni was in Fairfield Co., OH, in the early part of the 19th century, living in Pleasant Township in 1820 and Hocking Township in 1830. He worked as a teamster in the War of 1812. In 1831 the family moved up to Hancock Co., OH, settling in the northwest part of Findlay Township. In 1836 they moved a few miles west to Portage Township, near McComb. This land was first bought by his father, Henry Culp, who parceled it out to Benoni and his brother David. The first school in Portage Township was held in Benoni's wagon shop. Benoni left no will, however, his estate administration is on file at the Hancock County Courthouse. Benoni and Dorothy are buried at McComb-Union Cemetery, McComb, OH.
