Doris Elaine Mills

Doris Mills was born and raised in the small community of Oyster Pond Jeddore, Nova Scotia. She was the youngest daughter born to Rose Power and Alan Mills. As a child, she became sick with tuberculosis and spent months at the TB Hospital in Halifax. Upon leaving high school, Doris worked at N. Heinish and Company clothing store in Halifax.

During a visit to her sister in Ontario, Doris met her future husband Carl Finch. They were married in 1971 in the Oyster Pond United Church but moved to Ontario, living first in Paris before settling in Hamilton, where they ultimately bought a house on the Beach Strip.

While primarily a homemaker, Doris also took on odd jobs such as selling Avon and cleaning houses. She was an avid baker and was known for her Christmas baking.

Doris passed away on 20 July 2023 in Oakville, Ontario after a lengthy battle with sepsis. She is buried at the White Chapel Memorial Gardens in Hamilton.
