Death
Noted Sheridan Veterinarian Dies; Funeral FridayDr. S. C. Phillips, 73, widely known Sheridan veterinarian, died Monday evening in Witham Hospital, Lebanon, where he had been a patient for 7 weeks.
Although he had been in poor health for some time, he had continued his veterinary practice until a few days before he entered the hospital.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Hinshaw Funeral Home in Sheridan with Rev. C. A. Taylor officiating. Masonic services will be held at the grave in Crown View cemetery. Friends may cal at the Funeral Home Wednesday evening and Thursday.
Dr. Phillips was born northeast of Boxley, son of Melvin and Margaret Taylor Phillips, and was graduated from Boxley high school in 1903. He was a guard on the famous Boxley championship football team in 1902.
He entered Indianapolis Veterinary College in 1904, graduating four years later, and began the veterinary practice in the Sheridan and Boxley communities in 1906 that he continued without interruption for 48 years. IN 1953 he was granted a life membership in the Indiana Veterinary Medical Association. He was also a member of he American Medical Veterinary Association.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs Ina Phillips, whom he married in 1934; Five children from a former marriage, Mrs. Bernice Pickett, of Sheridan, Mrs. Dorotha Thompson of Sheridan, Mrs. Margaret Cooper of Marion, Louis Phillips of Olotha, Colo., and Chas. Phillips of Noblesville; twenty-two grandchildren, five great grandchildren; a brother, Bert Phillips of Anderson; and a step daughter, Mrs. Clarence Goldrick, of Indianapolis. [1]
