Stories (fam)-shared
I don't know where the Bible is as it was not in any of dad's things that were given to me, however, I do remember seeing it once, but there were no ribbons in it that I recall. It was back around 1958 or 1959 and I remember dad looking in it and finding a letter from grandpa's uncle in Edgar, N.C. to grandpa's father in Hortonville, Ind. (Edgar is gone and Hortonville lost their post office many years ago.) It seems to me as if the Bible started with grandpa's parents, so it didn't go back very far. My dad took that letter and used it to find our great-grandfather's family who had remained in N.C. Our great grandfather was Isaac Robbins, one of at least 7 children, and he came to Hamilton County as a young man, that's where he met and married our great grandmother, Keziah Tomlinson. He must have been close to his brother, Jacob Robbins, because Jacob came to Indiana too for a while but then returned home. The letter was from Jacob who was of course deceased by this time. We were on vacation in N.C. and stopped at a small grocery store on the edge of High Point, N.C. My dad asked a woman working in the store about the town and any Robbins'. I remember she came out of the store and got in our car and took us to see her father who was in his ninties. He remembered the family and told us where to find one of them, Lura Elma, who unfortunately had died a short time before. She married a Baker and I remember visiting her son John Baker and his son who was about my age. As you can see below, Jacob had 9 children. We were sent to meet the youngest child, Jacob Benjamin Robbins. He spent the entire day with us and took us to see 2 of his sisters, Rola Cooper and Lillie Hill, and took as back home with him that evening and had his daughter-in-law to make supper for us. None of us ever saw Jake again, he was a heavy smoker and he died about 4 years later. My dad and mother had a long friendship however with Rola Cooper and her husband John, and after their deaths with their daughter Edith Sizemore and their son Marvin Cooper. I took pictures of many of these people that day. Below is Jacob's children.3 ii. Hubert Marlin ROBBINS was born 5 APR 1878 in Randolph Co., NC, and died 1 FEB 1945 in Davidson Co., NC.
