Francis M. Foulke, aged 69, widely known among his friends as Frank, and one of the leading citizens of the northwestern part of the county, died suddenly Monday afternoon at Fairmount, where he had gone as a lay delegate to the Wesleyan Methodist conference. His death was attributed to a heart attack. He had not been well for two weeks but when he left for the conference he was feeling as well as usual. He lived only a short time after being stricken.
Services, in charge of Rev. E. L Glover, Lafayette, assisted by Rev. Vestal VanMetre, will be held at the Wesleyan Methodist church in Bakers Corner at 230 pm, Thursday. Burial will take place in Crown View cemetery, Sheridan. Pettijohn & Shanklin, Sheridan, are in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Foulke was a son of John and Mary (Hodson) Foulke, early residents of Adams township, and was born Feb. 21, 1874 on a farm south of Bakers Corner and Boxleytown and was a student in Purdue University for three years and while there was a member of the varsity football team. He was married to Cora Hester, who was a daughter of Rev. Jacob Hester, a widely known Wesleyan Methodist minister. Survivors include the widow and two daughters, Mrs. George Ploughe, near Sheridan, and Mrs. Hester Foust, who lived with her parents. Also living are a brother, Marvin Foulke, Bakers Corner, and two sisters, Mrs. Cora Teter, of the Hinkle Creek community, and Mrs. Ambia Simmons, Bakers Corner. Several grandchildren also are living. Mrs. Edward Alden, Noblesville, was reared in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Foulke.
The deceased was financially interested in the Sheridan Telephone Company for a number of years. When he sold his stock he engaged in the insurance and real estate business. He was a director, secretary and treasurer of he Crown View Cemetery Association. He also was always active in church work. [1]
