Occupation
- Widely known Race Horse Owner Dies at Home Here - Funeral Sunday. [1]- one of the most widely known race horse men in the country [1]
- for approximately forty years he entered his horses in practically every race circuit in the country. Almost his entire life had been spent in travel and during his life time he had missed but one Kentucky Derby, the racing classic of America. This was the last race held at Louisville and Mr. White was unable to attend because of illness. [1]
- "Uncle Jake" didn't care "a snap of his finger" for a harness race, but he would go "to the end of the earth almost" to witness or enter his mounts in a running classic, his friends state. "May Lets," His most highly prized horse repeatedly won laurels for him. Other well known horses owned and run by Mr. White were "Joe Cannon" and "John W." About a year ago, when forced to do so because of ill health, Mr. White disposed of his stables and returned to this city where he had since remained. During the long years he had followed the races, Mr. White had come to know the names of all of the prominent race horse trainers, the stables to which they were attached and the owners of the stables. [1]
- Until the past year Mr. White had been absent from the city practically all of the time. Between race meets he would return for short intervals. His many years in his cherished business had taught him the characteristics of humanity as well as of horses and extremely interesting it was to sit and converse for an hour or so with "the race horse man." [1]
- About a year ago (Oct 1925), when forced to do so because of ill health, Mr. White disposed of his stables and returned to this city where he had since remained. [1]
- She was married to the late J. D. White, of Peoria, Ill., the wedding taking place in this city. Mr. White who was a well known race horse fancier, died in this city seven years ago last October. [2]
