Census
1860 Census Entry: Name: Caroline Wehrman Age: 5 Sex: F Birthplace: WIMarriage
The Trinity Lutheran Church register lists Phillip as the third son in his family and Caroline as the third daughter in her family. It lists the wedding witnesses as Christ. L¸eke, Ed Pippert, Dorothea Wehrman, and Louise Schmidt.Avis Schlintz, in her book "Genealogy of descendants of Wehrmann proginators from Lippe Detmold and related families from Hanover and other areas of Germany" reports: "JUNG (Pronounced 'Young')
After their marriage, Phillip and Caroline Wehrmann Jung lived on an 80 acre farm in Washington County, near Hartford, WI. Five of their children were born here. In 1891, desiring a larger farm and not being able to accomplish this in the Hartland area, Phillip Jung traveled to near Randolph, WI, where already two brothers and a sister lived. He purchased a 180 acre farm in Columbia County, but remained in Hartford until fall, when they sold the farm there.
Phillip and his eldest son, August, drove horses and wagon, some cattle, and their household goods to Randolph. Caroline, with the other four children, traveled by train. They packed the family money with the baby diapers and buried some in oats.
On this farm five more boys were born to the couple. Phillip was a good farmer, practicing contour farming and other good procedures years before they were used by other farmers. He built a house in Michigan in 1911, where his wife and the four yournger [sic] sons went to live during the school year. Summers were spent on the farm.
He built the home in Benton Harbor, Michigan in order that his sons could attend school and also to be near his daughter, Louise, who had married Rev. Henry Haase, a Lutheran minister with a pastorate in Benton Harbor. Later another home was built and he and his wife spent the rest of their lives in this home.
Their son, John Jung, owned and operated the Jung Seed Co. at Randolph, WI., a name respected and honored in the nursery business, and still active today after well over 50 years in operation. He was joined in the business by his son or perhaps sons."
