"_Ernest Wehrmann_ was born on 19 May 1819 in Hanover, Germany . There is no record of the place that he was born or if he ha d brothers or sisters. Apparently, he came without family membe rs to America. He learned the woodworking trade and at 27 year s of age, he immigrated to America.
He spent the first couple of years in Milwaukee, where he practi ced his profession. Then, he came to Sheboygan County and purch ased land northeast of Howards Grove from the Sheboygan Indian s and here he began farming. The farm remained in Wehrmann hand s until 1973. His daughter, Caroline, told her children of an i ncident when the U.S. Cavalry ordered the family to vacate becau se of a rumor of indian uprising. Ernest buried his valuables a nd took his family to Sheboygan for safety.
He was active in his church and helped to establish the first Lu theran Church in Howards Grove. It is said that he made a pract ice of gathering his family about him every noon for meditatio n and scripture reading. His first wife, a Luecke (L¸cke in Ger man records) died in childbirth and is buried in the vicinity o f the farm. His second wife, Louisa Stock, was the mother of hi s 13 children. She was 20 years old when she married him - he w as 42. Louisa and her sister came from Lippe Detmold. Record s showing names of persons who followed after the 1847 immigrant s include the family name of Stock. There individuals by that n ame also in the 1847 migration. Louisa would have been 17 year s old in 1874 [sic] and she is not listed in that group. I hav e been unable to find the name of her sister who married Frederi ck Luecke, who must have been a relative of Ernest's first wife.
In 1862 plat map of Town Herman shows the farms of F. Luecke, a s well as H. Luecke, L. and F. Luecke, all bordering or very nea r to the Wehrman farm."

"In 1847 Simon Reineking came to the town [Herman] with his parents, Frderick and Mary Reineking. He married Catherine Wehrmann in 1850. She and her brother were members of the little colony of thirteen which came to the town that year [from Lippe-Detmold]."7 Ernest may be this brother. However, Catherine is never mentioned in any of Ernest's children's church records.

Research
There is some confusion about a maiden name. The name STOCK is listed in the family bible, but another name (STOCKMEYER) appears in the Trinity Lutheran Church records, part of the time, while STOCK is listed the rest of the time. Two stand outs: STOCK and STOCKMEYER. I think STOCK is an American shortening of STOCKMEYER. The -MEYER extension in Germany meant "manager", ie Farm Manager. Reference 19 uses STOCKMEIER.

"_Ernest Wehrmann_ was born on 19 May 1819 in Hanover, Germany . There is no record of the place that he was born or if he ha d brothers or sisters. Apparently, he came without family membe rs to America. He learned the woodworking trade and at 27 year s of age, he immigrated to America.
He spent the first couple of years in Milwaukee, where he practi ced his profession. Then, he came to Sheboygan County and purch ased land northeast of Howards Grove from the Sheboygan Indian s and here he began farming. The farm remained in Wehrmann hand s until 1973. His daughter, Caroline, told her children of an i ncident when the U.S. Cavalry ordered the family to vacate becau se of a rumor of indian uprising. Ernest buried his valuables a nd took his family to Sheboygan for safety.
He was active in his church and helped to establish the first Lu theran Church in Howards Grove. It is said that he made a pract ice of gathering his family about him every noon for meditatio n and scripture reading. His first wife, a Luecke (L¸cke in Ger man records) died in childbirth and is buried in the vicinity o f the farm. His second wife, Louisa Stock, was the mother of hi s 13 children. She was 20 years old when she married him - he w as 42. Louisa and her sister came from Lippe Detmold. Record s showing names of persons who followed after the 1847 immigrant s include the family name of Stock. There individuals by that n ame also in the 1847 migration. Louisa would have been 17 year s old in 1874 [sic] and she is not listed in that group. I hav e been unable to find the name of her sister who married Frederi ck Luecke, who must have been a relative of Ernest's first wife.
In 1862 plat map of Town Herman shows the farms of F. Luecke, a s well as H. Luecke, L. and F. Luecke, all bordering or very nea r to the Wehrman farm."

"In 1847 Simon Reineking came to the town [Herman] with his parents, Frderick and Mary Reineking. He married Catherine Wehrmann in 1850. She and her brother were members of the little colony of thirteen which came to the town that year [from Lippe-Detmold]."7 Ernest may be this brother. However, Catherine is never mentioned in any of Ernest's children's church records.

"In 1847 Simon Reineking came to the town [Herman] with his parents, Frderick and Mary Reineking. He married Catherine Wehrmann in 1850. She and her brother were members of the little colony of thirteen which came to the town that year [from Lippe-Detmold]."54 Ernest may be this brother. However, Catherine is never mentioned in any of Ernest's children's church records.

"_Ernest Wehrmann_ was born on 19 May 1819 in Hanover, Germany. There is no record of the place that he was born or if he had brothers or sisters. Apparently, he came without family members to America. He learned the woodworking trade and at 27 years of age, he immigrated to America.
He spent the first couple of years in Milwaukee, where he practiced his profession. Then, he came to Sheboygan County and purchased land northeast of Howards Grove from the Sheboygan Indians and here he began farming. The farm remained in Wehrmann hands until 1973. His daughter, Caroline, told her children of an incident when the U.S. Cavalry ordered the family to vacate because of a rumor of indian uprising. Ernest buried his valuables and took his family to Sheboygan for safety.
He was active in his church and helped to establish the first Lutheran Church in Howards Grove. It is said that he made a practice of gathering his family about him every noon for meditation and scripture reading. His first wife, a Luecke (Lucke in German records) died in childbirth and is buried in the vicinity of the farm. His second wife, Louisa Stock, was the mother of his 13 children. She was 20 years old when she married him - he was 42. Louisa and her sister came from Lippe Detmold. Records showing names of persons who followed after the 1847 immigrants include the family name of Stock. There individuals by that name also in the 1847 migration. Louisa would have been 17 years old in 1874 [sic] and she is not listed in that group. I have been unable to find the name of her sister who married Frederick Luecke, who must have been a relative of Ernest's first wife.
In 1862 plat map of Town Herman shows the farms of F. Luecke, as well as H. Luecke, L. and F. Luecke, all bordering or very near to the Wehrman farm."1

There is some confusion about a maiden name. The name STOCK is listed in the family bible, but another name (STOCKMEYER) appears in the Trinity Lutheran Church records, part of the time, while STOCK is listed the rest of the time. Two stand outs: STOCK and STOCKMEYER. I think STOCK is an American shortening of STOCKMEYER. The -MEYER extension in Germany meant "manager", ie Farm Manager. Reference 19 uses STOCKMEIER.
