He was out of work for three years during the depression. When prohibition was lifted, he received one of the 1st liquor licenses. This is confirmed by his 1964 death certificate, which lists his occupation as a storekeeper, and his 1942 World War II draft registration, which reports him as being self employed at 107-14 Jamaica Ave. According to his son, Albert R. Bongiovi, this was the address of the liquor store. His partner was Edmund Fitzgerald, Mayme Siggins' husband.Endnotes
