CHRIST HINZ. The rich and fertile farm lands of Sheboygan county are rapidly assuming the shape of family estates. The acres of the father are in almost every instance handed down to the son, who carries on the work of their improvement and development. The seventy acres of land of which Christ Hinz is now the owner came into his possession in this way. His father was for many years one of the active farmers of this district and upon his retirement sold to his son his farm. Christ Hinz is a native of Sheboygan county, his birth having here occurred July 14, 1879. His father, John Hinz, a native of Germany, came to America with his parents at an early date and settled in this district, where he engaged in the occupation of farming. In his family were nine children: William, who is married and has two children living in Watertown, Wisconsin, where he is agent for Hartig Brewery; Otto, who is engaged in general farming in Sheboygan township and is the father of five children; Louis, a prominent farmer and carpenter in this township, who is married and has three children; Christ, the subject of this sketch; Elizabeth, who lives at home; Fred, residing on the old homestead; Freda, a resident of Chicago; Alvina, who is living at home; and Lydia, who is the wife of Ernst Amling, a prominent florist in Chicago, by whom she has one son.
Christ Hinz received his early education in the district schools of Sheboygan township. He started to learn the carpenter's trade and engaged in this line of occupation for twelve years, or until December 12, 1911, when he purchased from his father he seventy acres of land on which the family homestead stands. It is one of the most modern and up-to-date farms in this section of the country and thereon are many new buildings and barns, the property is well fenced, and he has the most efficient equipment to be found in the market.
On June 15, 1907, Mr. Hinz was united in marriage to Miss Elfreda Koellmer, a daughter of Frank Koellmer, and they have one son, Elmer John. The family are members of the German Lutheran church and devout adherents of its doctrines. Mr. Hinz is a practical Farmer, interested in every new discovery which makes for more efficient agricultural methods in and age when the cultivation of the soil is rapidly becoming a distinct science. He has kept himself abreast of the times and thoroughly acquainted with modern conditions.
