Obituary
Our townspeople were cast into deep sorrow Friday evening by the sudden death of John Henry Pullen which occurred at 7:00 o'clock at the Pullen farm near Day's crossing. Mr. Pullen had not been as well as usual during the day and about noon was stricken with a shock and lived only a few hours. John Henry Pullen was born May 4, 1846, in this town, the son of Horace and Sophia Pullen. He attended the public schools and Monson academy. In 1866 he moved onto the homestead farm where he had lived every since. In June, 1868, he was united in marriage to Elvira S. M. Mower. One son was born to them, Eugene M. Mr. Pullen and Miss Nettie F. Wentworth were united in marriage Oct. 17, 1875. Six children were born to them, Winfred W., Mrs. Stella H. Hughes, Harry M., Sophia R., Horace M., George P. Mr. Pullen became a Christian in his youth and his life was an example of true Christianity. For many years he had been deacon of the Baptist church and clerk of that society. He was gifted with a rich, deep bass voice that was listened to with great pleasure and he was almost always in his place in the Baptist choir Sundays. His voice was also heard on many special occasions. He sang with the choir only a few weeks before his sudden death. During the years gone by he has served on the board of selectmen and was at the time of his death an honored member of the board of trustees of Monson academy. He leaves a sister, Mrs. Jennie Jackson of Birmingham, Ala., besides a large family to mourn their loss. The entire community extends deepest sympathy to the bereaved relatives at this time of affliction.Endnotes
