Red gladioli decorated the altar of St. John's Catholic church Saturday morning at 7:45 o'clock when Miss Marilyn Ann McGinty, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Edward McGinty of 183 Elm street, was married to Lawrence Charlton Brewster, Jr., sone of Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence C. Brewster, Sr., of 175 Pearl street, Portland. The Rev. Raymond F. Begin performed the double-ring ceremony with the bride given in marriage by her father. Miss Doris O'Leary was the maid of honor and the bridesmaids were Mrs. Donald Soucy of Bangor and Miss Helen Ann Vardiff of Lewiston. The best man was Martin Greeley of Portland, with Robert Malia and Patrick Kearns, also of Portland, serving as ushers. Alfred Vellieux sand "Ave Maria" and "Panis Angelicus" accompanied at the organ by Miss Ann Saliem. The bride was attired in a gown of Chantilly lace with long sleeves pointed at the wrist. The full skirt of the gown featured panels of Chantilly lace and net over satin. Her fingertip length veil of illusion was caught to a helmet of Chantilly lace accented by a tie of satin and net pleating. She carried a sheaf of calla lilies. Miss O'Leary wore a gown of shocking pink satin with an overskirt of net and a tafetta bolero jacket. She carried a crescent bouquet of blue iris and wore a matching headband. The bridesmaids were attired in matching gowns and aqua taffeta with net overskirts and tafetta bolero jackets. They carried cascade bouquets of yellow shattered carnations and wore matching headbands. A street-length dress of copen blue silk crepe with beaded neckline was worn by the bride's mother, who chose a pink flowered hat and black accessories. Her corsage was of pink roses. The mother of the bridegroom wore steel blue crepe with a square neckline of lace and accordian pleated accents. Her hat and accessories were blue and her corsage was of pink roses. Spring flowers decorated the tables at the Bangor House where a reception followed the ceremony. The guest book was circulated by Mrs. Linwood Hayden of Rockville, Conn., and Mrs. Ronald Pooler of Searsport was in charge of the gift table. The bride wore a gray wool suit under a gray Chinese kidskin coat with black accessories for a wedding trip to New York City. Her corsage was a purple orchid. The couple will be at home at 23 Dow street, Portland, after March 1. The bride attended John Bapst High school and the Mercy Hospital School of Nursing, Portland. She is employed in private duty nursing. The bridegroom attended Portland high school and Portland Junior college. He served three years with the U. S. Navy in World War II, and is now employed at the Western Auto Supply company. Out-of-town guests were: Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence C. BANGOR - Lawrence C. Brewster Jr., 83, died Feb. 22, 2007, at his residence. He was born Oct. 13, 1923, in Portland, the son of Lawrence and Mary (Casey) Brewster. Lawrence was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He was a World War II Army Medic serving in Europe. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service and was active as a past president of the letter carriers, AFLCIO union. Lawrence was a communicant of St. John's Catholic Church. He enjoyed coaching Eastside farm and little league, and was active in the Bangor Democratic Party. He is survived by one son, David Brewster of Bangor; two daughters, Robin Brewster of Bangor and Joanne Cullins of Oregon; six grandchildren, James, Jennifer and Sean Cullins of Oregon, Heather and Ashley Brewster of Bangor, Tomi Cooksoon of Calais; three sisters, Lorraine Neuts of Gorham, Mary Brown of Westbrook and Frances Sprague of Carmel; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Marilyn (MCGinty) Brewster; three brothers, Neil, Ralph and Thomas; one sister, Marion; a baby sister and brother. Friends may call 2-4 p.m. Sunday at Greenlawn Funeral Home, 300 State St., Bangor. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. John's Catholic Church. Interment will be in the spring at Mount Pleasant Cemetery. A reception will be after in the parish hall of St. John's Church after the Mass.Endnotes
