Military
According to Draper's History of the Bemis Family, "Colonel Benjamin Bemis was a distinguished soldier in the Revolutionary Struggle and in the War of 1812. He was a private in Capt. Joseph Walcott's Company of Rangers, from Spencer in the Lexington Alarm. Sergeant in Capt. Joel Green's Company, Col. Frye's Regiment Mass. Militia 1775. Lieut. 8th Comp. Worcester County Militia, in Col. Washburne's Regiment, Worcester Co. Mass Militia Jan. 12, 1781. Also, Member of the Spencer Committee of Correspondence and Safety. He commanded a Regiment in the War of 1812, and was ordered to the Canadian frontier, where however they did not have an engagement with the British."Endnotes
