Notes
Bio Note
Worcester (Mas.) May 29. Yesterday morning, Aaron Mower, of this town, was committed to jail for an attempt to murder the widow of his late uncle, John Mower, in whose family he had dwelt, and from whom he had experienced kindness of a mother for twenty years past. No motive can be assigned for this savage act. It seems to have emanated from a malignant temper, made more infernal by an indulgence in ardent spirit. Mrs. Mower was knocked down and received four stabs in her breast from a large carving knife, and sundry deep wounds in her hands in defending herself, before the monster could be torn from his prey. In a few moments he would unquestionably have executed his horrid purpose, had not an alarm been given by two nieces of Mrs. Mower, who were in the house, and who outcries called Mr. J. Stiles, who happened to be near the house, to her rescue. One of the young ladies had her hand severely cut by an attempt to wrest the murderous weapon from his hand.Endnotes
