Occupationpublic accountant. He was for some years in the dry goods business in Presque Isle. He first worked for S. Friedman & Company, a retail clothing business, for about five years after leaving school. He was then employed briefly by M.S. Klein, clothier, before becoming a clerk in William R. Piper's dry goods business. In 1905, Leon formed a partnership with R. M. Barker operating a dry goods business under the name Howe-Barker Company until its dissolution in 1913. He then opened a ladies' furnishing store. He was an internal revenue collector for the Northern District of Maine and later high sheriff of Aroostook County, Maine. Additionally, he was involved in the fertilizer business for several years.
