Obituary
BANGOR - Lillian Eastman McPike passed away June 4, 2012, at a Bangor health care facility. She was born Feb. 12, 1921, in West Corinth. Her father was Wilbur H. Eastman, 1887-1946; and her mother was Nina Dow Eastman, 1875-1954. Lillian will be remembered as a devoted homemaker who cherished her family and friends. She began that family with her marriage in September 1939 to Clayton Charles McPike, 1913-1985, of Waite. She then had four children, Nadine McDowell of Holden, Alden McPike of Bangor, Stephen McPike and Joel McPike, both of Gray. Lillian was active in various churches, school boards and helping her rural neighbors. Other work related activities included town clerk of Waite for 13 years and also assistant post-master. She always took an interest in young people, and mentored several generations on the value of education, a sense of humor, hard work and the "drive" to accomplish what is important. Lillian was always interested in learning new things, tasting new foods and traveling. She also loved music and dancing in particular. Her last dance on this earth was her 90th birthday at Paddy Murphy's. Today though, she is at peace and dancing once more with her beloved Clayton. After the dance, they will proceed to a quiet cabin deep in the peaceful woods where they will entertain their beloved grandsons, and wait for us all with baked beans in the oven and music wafting into the warm evening. She was the youngest of seven children and the last of her generation. Her siblings were Charles Eastman, Carrie Pearson, Warren Eastman, Vera Brown, Marion Packard and Robert Eastman. She is survived by all her children; and two of her grandsons, Michael McPike of Bangor and Noah McPike of Nashville, Tenn. She was also predeceased by three of her grandsons, Peter McDowell, Scott McDowell and Joseph McPike, who are waiting to walk her into heaven. At her request, no service will be held and a committal will be held late this summer.Endnotes
