He enlisted in the U. S. Navy on 17 August 1917 in Portland, Maine. He was promoted to Sergeant on 22 November 1917 and then Sergeant First Class on 15 August 1918. He was attached to Ambulance Co. No. 48 serving overseas. Earle received an honorable discharge on 29 March 1919.Military
