The Saint Paul Globe reported on 10 October 1888, that a letter received by Edwin Van Vorhes from Sitka, Alaska, left little room for doubt that his father, Henry C. Van Vorhes had perished while on a voyage of discovery along the coast, departing from Sitka in a small sail boat earlier in the spring with a group of adventurers. No trace of the boat or any of the party has been found, despite a search for them.Endnotes
