Obituary
Carroll I. McGilvery, 87, a lifelong resident of this city, died Sunday at the Seville Plaza in Auburn. He was born in Auburn, a son of Hervey F. and Harriet (Carroll) McGilvery, attended Auburn schools and graduated from Edward Little High School. He married the former Mildred A. Fogg on July 27, 1929. She died on April 15, 1983. Mr. McGilvery owned and operated Fogg's Leather Store on Maine Street for 44 years, retiring in 1972. He was a 60-year member of Ashlar Lodge, a member of Lewiston Lodge of Perfection, the Auburn Council of the Princes of Jerusalem, the H. H. Dickey Chapter of Rose Croix (past Most Wise Master), the Maine Consistory, Valley of Portland (32nd Degree) and Kora Temple (past Potentate). He served as trustee of Kora Temple from 1959-1975, was a member and past president of Androscoggin Shrine Club, and past director of Put Stevens Court, Royal Order of Jesters. Mr. McGilvery was a secretary-treasurer of Kora Temple Past Potentates Association from 1960-1983, the board of the Shrine Hospital for Crippled Children in Springfield, Mass. from 1975-1980; and in 1981 was made an emeritus life member of the board. He was a former trustee of DeMolay Pine Tree Youth Foundation, as well as a former member of The Salvation Army Advisory Board. He was a member and former chairman of the local Score Chapter sponsored by the Small Business Administration, a member and former trustee of the Lewiston United Baptist Church, a corporator of Central Maine Medical Center and former chariman of its annual fund drive, and a former corporator of Androscoggin Savings Bank. Surviving are his son, George F. of Augusta and Wells; a brother, Gerald A. of Auburn; and a sister, Anita Stewart of East Haddam, Conn. A funeral will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday at the Plummer & Merrill Funeral Home, 70 Horton St. Committal will be in Mount Auburn Cemetery.Endnotes
