Education
He took a three year course, "giving special attention to culture of the voice and public school methods." While attending, he was a member of the conservatory quartette which sang all around New England. He also sang at many town churches around Boston as well.Occupation
According to Walter L. Mower's genealogy, "upon returning to Maine, he taught singing schools in Wilton, Farmington, Jay and Temple for two years, singing in the Farmington churches as well. The following year he became first supervisor of Music in the Auburn public schools, where he remained for 25 years. Music was added to the school curriculum and it soon became evident that an important musical advancement had been made to the City of Auburn. The High School Glee Clubs for both boys and girls were inaugurated. He had a prominent service in the Maine Music Festivals, being conductor of the Auburn and Lewiston chorus for 13 years, singing tenor in the big chorus. Had also many pupils for private tutoring. His voice was a very pure tenor of high register and flexible quality. He had charge of the music for many years at the Auburn Universalist Church, and taught many terms of singing school in surrounding towns."Endnotes
