Obituary of H.F. McCarter
Aged Camas Prairie Pioneer Dies in Hospital at Boise
Last Saturday night occurred the death of Hugh Franklin McCarter at Boise, at the age of eighty years. Mr. McCarter came to the Prairie many years ago and settled just south of the Wardrop Hot Springs which is still the old home place. Here the family of eight boys and girls who survive grew to young manhood and womanhood. The last few years old age has been creeping on and he has failed rapidly. Last winter in order to escape the severe weather here, he went to Boise, and a few days after his arrival he was run into on the street by a newsboy and in the fall he sustained a fractured hip. He was immediately placed in a hospital, and while the fracture healed nicely, hardening of the arteries and other complications set in, so that he remained bedfast until he passed away last Saturday night. Funeral services were held in Boise Tuesday morning and the remains were laid to rest there.
Hugh F. McCarter was born in Elk Creek, Virginia, November 17, 1845. He came to Idaho in 1886 and has been engaged in farming and stock raising for the past twenty-five years. He represented Blaine county in the Idaho legislature for a term beginning in 1892.
The eight children who survive are: Mrs. L.W. Harness, Will and Claude, of the Corral neighborhood; O.J. of Carey and H.R., Earl, Mrs. Arlo Weaver and Miss Sallie, all of Boise.
