Carolyn Hale Cannaday

Carolyn Allnut Lenz, 79, died Friday, July 20, 2001, at Manor Care Nursing Home, Bethesda. She was a resident of Maplewood Park Place in Bethesda.
She was the beloved sister of Dorothy C. Major of Suffolk, and stepmother of Diane May of McLean, Va., and Carol Warner of Roanoke, Va. She is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Lenz was born in Spring Valley, Virginia, the daughter of the late Dr. and Mrs. Robert W. Cannaday. After graduating from Fries High School, she attended Farmville State Teachers College and Roanoke Business College. She spent many years in government service as secretary to the late Sen. A. Willis Robertson, D-Va., and in the Departments of the Treasury and the Navy. After retiring, she worked for Mr. Peter at Tudor Place and was an active volunteer at Sibley Memorial Hospital in Washington, D.C. She was also an active member of Chevy Chase United Methodist Church.
Friends will be received from 3 to 5 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Pumphrey's Bethesda-Chevy Chase Funeral Home, 7557 Wisconsin Ave., Bethesda, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday. Interment will be in Monocacy Cemetery, Beallsville, Md.
Memorial contributions may be made in her name to the American Diabetes Association, 1211 Connecticut Ave., N.W. Suite 501, Washington, DC 20036.
