Elizabeth "Lib" Rose

Gastonia, NC: Mrs. Elizabeth "Lib" Rose, 93, died Monday, October 5, 2009. Born in Lynchburg, VA, she was the daughter of the late Robert Ruffin Hooker and Madge Ella Cornet Hooker.

Mrs. Rose attended Duke University where she studied English Grammar. She retired as a secretary/office manager with the Pioneer Council of the Girl Scouts of America, was an active member of Myers Memorial United Methodist Church where she played an integral part of the life of the church, and was a member of the Major William Chronicle Chapter of the D.A.R., where she was a Regent.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Merrill Mitchell "Jack" Rose; brothers, Charles Wright Hooker, Martin Hooker and George Hooker; sister, Susan Bryan Stumpf.

Survivors include her children, Robert Rose and his wife, Susan of Elmhurst, IL, and Mary June Rose of Gastonia; sister, Mariella Francisco of Van Nuys, CA; grandson, Jon Redmond of Belmont; great-grandson, Evan Redmond of Belmont; and a number of nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, October 7, 2009 at Myers Memorial United Methodist Church with Rev. Clyde Penry and Rev. Tom Latimer officiating. Entombment will follow at Gaston Memorial Park Mausoleum. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Little Red School House at Myers Memorial United Methodist Church, 301 S New Hope Road, Gastonia, NC 28054.
