Charles S. Valentine Jr., 71, of Richmond, died Sunday, February 4, 2001. Born in Richmond, he was the son of the late Charles S. and Ruth L. Valentine. He is survived by three sons, Charles S. Valentine III, R. Alan Butler Jr. and Forrest F. Butler; five grandchildren, Prescott, Lexi, Emily, Bess and Ned Butler; and his sister, Mary Lyle Preston.

Mr. Valentine was the retired founder and headmaster of Stony Point School. He was a graduate of Woodberry Forest School and Yale University. Mr. Valentine spent his summers on Squam Lake, New Hampshire. He served as a lieutenant in the U.S. Navy. Mr. Valentine was a former headmaster at St. Michael's Episcopal School.

The family will receive friends 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday at the Central Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 3215 Cutshaw Ave. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, February 9, in Hollywood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Charles S. Valentine Jr. Memorial Fund at Stony Point School, 3400 Stony Point Rd., Richmond, Va. 23235.

He was a lover of animals, particularly his dalmation, Major, and was a member of more than a dozen environmental and wildlife organizations.
