James O. Row 1909 - 1998

James Orville Row, 88, of Chanute and formerly of Iola, died Thursday, Oct. 8, 1998 at the Heritage Health Care Center in Chanute.

He was born Dec. 25, 1909, in Chanute to Hezekiah and Cora McCarter Row. He grew up in Chanute and graduated from Chanute High School.

He worked as an electronic technician for RCA for many years and helped build components for the Apollo space capsule. His hobbies included operating his ham radio and he had been a member of the amateur radio club in Chanute.

On Feb. 27, 1937, he married Lilly Mae Hermstein in Chanute. They made their home in Audubon, N.J. from 1940 until moving to Iola in 1982. She died May 5, 1986.

He married Maxine McKeeman Ranabargar on Oct. 5, 1991, in Chanute where they made their home.

Survivors include his wife, Maxine Row, of Chanute; one son, James Orville Row, Jr., of Hollywood, Fla.; one stepdaughter, Cheryl Ranabargar-Kretzer, of Leavenworth; and two grandsons.

He was also preceded in death by a sister, Wilda Smith.

Graveside service will be 1:30 p.m. Monday in Highland Cemetery in Iola, the Rev. Jana Baxter will officiate. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.

Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Memorial Chapel, Iola, is in charge of arrangements.
