David and Olive were thought not to have any children, at least none survived long, nor appear in any record. They are known to have had a large household of his relatives or hers, or both. Olive was so highly esteemed by Hartshorns, Pembers, Hydes, and Armstrongs that she is included in their family traditions.

David was always known as "David Hartshorn ye 3d" although in Calkin's "History of Norwich," David the 4th is credited as claming bounty for killing one rattlesnake. No other David Hartshorn could claim descent from three Davids so this David must be the one so identified. See Probate No. 4927, Norwich. (In State LIbrary at Hartford).

On 30 Jun 1777, a request that Ebenezer Hartshorn 3rd "my husband's kinsman" act as Executor is signed by Olive in a difficult hand. Appraisal was made by him and Joshua Backus at 157L 8s 3d, including 1 horse, 1 cow, 1 heifer, 7 acres of land (and other land), excellent house furnishings. The file was closed in 1778.

"David was the co-executor, with Thomas Pember, Jr. for the estate of Thomas Pember. He and Pember were under 100L bond when the estate came to probate, 4 March 1756.
