David was admitted to the church 21 Apr 1728, his wife on 28 May 1721. He is always recorded in Norwich as Mr. David Hartshorn, even before his father died in 1738. The latter is called Dr. and Deacon. By 1730, the title David Jr. belongs to their "kinsman" David (son of John, and grandson of Thomas). Apparently this was an arbitrary distinction made by the town clerk for accuracy sake.

David lived at his first Norwich homestead all his life. After he had provided lands for his sons and household goods for his daughters, on 18 Mar 1755, he made a will giving each 20s in addition, except Zebadiah as executor to have the residue. The will gave his wife Abigail a mare, a cow, and household goods of all sorts. (She predeceased him.) Witnesses were David Hartshorn Jr., Andrew Minor, Ebenezer Hartshorn (Eben ye 3rd b. 1742). His Estate was entered 27 Feb 1779 and Ebenezer appeared and swore to the signatures of the two other witnesses and himself. (They had died.) Eli Hyde and Silas Harshorn were appraisers. See Norwich Probate No. 4929. (Note - This could be Ebenezer, b. 1702, for he was still doing business when 77 years old and later.)
